Skiing with the monks: Simplon-Hospiz

As every year, there was a big skitouring weekend in 2018, which took place on the 24th to 25th of March. Organization and report by Christoph.

The chosen area was the magnificent Simplon-Pass where we stayed in the traditional Hospice. There, the monks who impressed us with their calm, uncomplicated and friendly approach hosted us very well. In total 24 club members participated or better to say contributed to the success of the trip. Of course, the fantastic weather helped the already good mood everybody was experiencing. Most of us chose public transportation as a mean to get up to the pass with the Post-Auto stop just in front of the Hospice.

In the morning, we split up into smaller sub-groups with different daily goals, among which Monte Leone (3553m) and Breithorn (3437m) the most prominent ones. The snow conditions changed quite a bit during the day and with exposure, from crust to powder and spring snow, such that there was something for everyone. In the evening, we had our well-earned dinner at the Hospice and of course the one or other beer.
