Who we are. Founded in 1896, the AACZ is a group of passionate mountaineers actively enganged in club life and with some connection to the academic institutions of Zürich. We are not a hiking or climbing club, but enjoy mountaineering in its entire diversity. In summer, members are found on alpine rock faces and in the high, glaciated mountains, in winter, they go iceclimbing and ski touring - in Europe and beyond. It is crucial that every member is self-reliant and autonomous in the mountains, aware of her/his abilities, limits and the risk of her/his activities. As opposed to other mountaineering clubs, we do not offer guided tours. Even on our club tours, every rope team is responsible for themselves.
What is important to us. Important for successful and enjoyable trips to the mountains that you can trust yourself and your partner with making decisions. Our weekly climbing/bouldering session, monthly meetings of the active club and club tours serve as opportunities to get to know other members. Our members are actively contributing to our club life, e.g. by organizing a club event. The club is rather small, and we stress personal interaction between the members. By doing this, we want to provide an alternative to anonymous internetplatforms on the one hand and large clubs, where you do not know each other on the other hand.
Guideless Mountaineering. It’s important that you have some climbing or alpine experience, take a safe and responsible attitude to your mountaineering and don't take on more than you can safely handle. For mountaineering training, we would recommend that you get in touch with the Academic Sports Association Zurich (ASVZ), a Swiss mountaineering school or the Swiss Alpine Club.
Interested? If you have some experience and you’re looking for a like-minded group of mountain fans, with common interests and goals, we warmly invite you to get in touch and learn more about our club. We hope that you find this outline information useful and very much look forward to hearing from you.
